In the summer of 2022, we were subcontracted by 23Degrees to provide pre- and post-lay survey services for the landfall points at Shetland, Fair Isle, and the West Coast. Our vessel, Athenia, was mobilized with both a dedicated ROV team and a survey team from Hydrofix.

For the bathymetric survey, the survey team deployed an Edge Tech 6205 sonar system, while the ROV team used a NetMC HD camera mounted on a Falcon ROV for video survey operations. Positioning for the survey was facilitated using the Easytrack Nexus USBL system.

In addition to survey duties, the Athenia was also tasked with crew transfer operations, which the vessel was well-suited for. The contract required coordinating simultaneous operations (SIMOPs) between the large cable layer, multicat, and various RHIBs.

During the surveys the team found a torpedo which had to be removed as it was in the direct line for part of the cable lay.
